Day 14, Melbourne
I left early in the morning, heading to Melbourne from the Great Ocean Road. Driving in an unknown big city makes me nervous. Traffic was very bad, and I later found out that there was an Aussie Rules rugby game on Saturday night in the city.
When I realized I had passed the parking lot where I should park for the hotel, it took me 45 minutes to get back to the same place. The signs were so confusing—definitely a "WTH" moment. I've driven in quite a few countries, and this was the only time a sign put me into panic mode.
Note: In Australia, they drive on the left side of the road.
Okay, you guys are native English speakers, right? Let me know what you think about this sign!
I asked the front desk about this sign, and she said that because of the tram, cars cannot block it. So, when cars need to turn right, they have to move to the left lane and wait for the traffic light to turn green for that direction. The cars going straight can pass the cars waiting to turn right. According to her, this sign is unique to Melbourne.
I actually asked a few Australians who don't live in Melbourne, and even they went "WTH" So please be aware if you are going to drive in Melbourne.
Well I have an idea. I should make bumper sticker or magnet says "I am a tourist. PLEASE STAY AWAY from me"
so you will be safe and I will be safe.

Actually, I wasn't excited to stay in Melbourne, but my best friend from when I was living in Cairns moved to Melbourne many years ago. I contacted her before I came to Australia and found out she is still in Melbourne. What a surprise! We finally met again and had a great time :)
I was sad to come back to the big city. It was so much better driving outback and seeing amazing nature, but Melbourne's night skyline reminded me of where I am from, and meeting my old friend made the trip great.
Also, what was amazing was that no flights were delayed or canceled, even with Jetstar, lol. So, I would say it was a great trip and couldn't have been better!
Thank you, Australia. I will be back one day.
